The Stennes Family
To understand the heart of Homestead River
Ranch — and a deep love of the land behind it — you have
to understand the heart of the Stennes family, who came
to this region in 1894.
Britanus Stennes was among the early pioneers to reach the
Columbia River Town of Ives Landing (later named Pateros)
and the Methow Valley.
An immigrant from Norway, Britanus (who later married Bertha)
did what his forefathers before him had done, and what millions
of other American immigrants had to do to survive — he worked
hard!
Britanus staked a homestead claim along the Methow River,
north of the Columbia River.
He built a modest home which is still in use by the Stennes
family today.
Britanus cleared sagebrush and rocks and planted apple trees,
setting in motion what was to become a thriving family business
— Stennes Orchards.
Today, 114 years later, three generations of the Stennes
family
call this area home — most still live on the original family
homestead.
And now the Stennes family is proud to present Homestead
River Ranch
— a glorious stretch of land along the Methow River which
has been
in the family for many years and is near the family’s original
homestead site.
Homestead River Ranch is the fruit of a dream to create
a special
community — a place where every detail has been thoughtfully
considered
and created — on a piece of land the Stennes have loved,
and worked for many years.
The Stennes family invites you to come and relax, to enjoy
the area’s
incomparable natural beauty and unlimited recreational options,
and become
an extended member of their Homestead family.
